Independence Day (ID) full dress rehearsal functions were today organised in the Kashmir valley, including summer capital, Srinagar, under unprecedented security arrangements.

Though full dress rehearsals were held at all district and tehsil headquarters, the main function was organised in Srinagar at heavily-guarded Bakshi Stadium, where hundreds of security forces and state police personnel, were deployed to prevent any disturbance.

Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, Baseer Ahmad Khan, unfurled the national flag and took salute at the march past presented by contingents paramilitary forces, state police, fire and emergency services besides students from different educational institutions.

Cultural programmes were also presented on the occasion. However, a motorcyclist was injured when he fell during displaying his skills.

He was hospitalised. Meanwhile, roads around the stadium were closed with barbed wire for any public movement.

Vehicles had to take longer route to reach the Lallded hospital because of closure of the roads. However, the main Jehangir Chowk road was open for traffic.

Large number of security force personnel, wearing bullet proof jackets, were seen deployed outside both main gates and in and around the stadium, where dog squads were also pressed into service.

The nearby Iqabal park has also been closed for public while security forces have also been deployed on main roads leading to stadium.

Security forces were also conducting searches of vehicles and frisking pedestrians at several places in the city since yesterday to foil any militant attempt to smuggle arms and ammunition from outskirts.
