In times of corruption surge, VO lacks manpower in JK

Despite surge in cases related to the corruption in the state, the anti-graft body Vigilance Organization lacks adequate manpower in Kashmir.

According to Vigilance officials, the organization in Kashmir has only 100 to 150 personnel including top rank officials. The lack of manpower according to officials hampers the process of the organization to deal with the corrupt elements effectively.
“In a state like Jammu and Kashmir where corruption cases against the government officials are being reported on daily basis, the organization is finding it hard to tackle with these cases effectively due to lack of adequate manpower,” an official who wished not to be named said.
Despite lacking manpower, the organization at present has been doing an excellent job in disposing corruption cases. “The corruption cases are being taken on priority basis and this is the reason you find accused corrupt officials in news on daily basis. There are directions from top to take the corruption cases on priority and present charge sheet against the corrupt government employees,” said the official.
Another official said that there is dire need to equip this anti-graft body with all facilities and provide man-power to it. “The menace of corruption will disappear to a great extent if manpower is provided to the organization,” he said. (CNS)
