The internet gag has adversely affected almost all the aspects of life in Kashmir especially education, tourism and patient care.
The internet was snapped on August 5 when the union government abrogated Article 370 and 35 A of the Indian constitution that conferred special status on the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir. Same day the government of India also snapped cellular services as well. The government , however, restored postpaid mobiles but the pre-paid remain silent to this day which has also added to the woes of the traders and students. Similarly the patients living in far flung areas have also suffered a lot.
The suspension of the vital service according to Kashmir based contractors has affected e-governance and e-tendering. “We are unabale to submit tenders because there is no internet facility,” they said.
The blockade of internet has created enormous problems for the people of the Valley with traders, researchers, students, media houses and those who have to avail benefits under government schemes at the receiving end.
Education sector has been the worst victim and with internet services snapped, the students have no source to study at home and clear their concepts. Students are missing opportunities to apply for higher studies and jobs as everything these days is online.
The media in Kashmir have been facing major issues due to the communication blockade.
