Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) has taken a lead in constituting the Institutional Ethics Committee (Institutional Review Board) comprising experts from both outside and within the university. The committee will set forth procedures for upholding the highest ethical norms for research and development within the varsity. 

The maiden meeting of the board was held today at the campus under the chairmanship of Prof. Shariq Masoodi (Head Endocrinology SKIMS), and was attended by Prof. Adil Hafiz (Head, Department of Plastic Surgery), Dr. Arshad Ahmad Pandith (Sr. Scientist, Advanced Centre for Human Genetics SKIMS), Dr. Monisa Qadiri (IUST) Advocate Usman Gani, Asmat Parveen (IUST), Dr. Muzafar Ahmad Macha (IUST), Mohammad Latif Bhat (Awantipora).
Prof. Masoodi briefed all the members about the roles and responsibilities of this committee and welcomed the constitution of this committee by the IUST VC. The committee discussed various research proposals and carved a procedure for developing various SOPs, practices in future.
The committee has the mandate to review various research proposals to assess formally if the research will be ethical. The board will ensure conformity to recognized ethical standards, which includes respecting the dignity, rights, safety and well-being of the people who take part.
The vote of thanks was proposed by Dr. Monisa Qadiri and earlier Asmat Parveen welcomed the guests.
