Journalists’ Threat Case: Searches carried out at 7 locations in Kashmir

‘Incriminating material including jihadi literature recovered: JKP

The Jammu and Kashmir Police on Thursday carried out searches are underway at seven locations in Srinagar, Budgam and Pulwama districts in connection with online threats to journalists.
“Searches are going on in multiple locations in Srinagar, Badgam and Pulwama districts in connection with 'online journalists threat' case. This is subsequent to the leads received from searches done few days ago in same case,” Srinagar Police on Twitter.
In a statement, officials said police again carried out raids at seven locations in Srinagar, Budgam and Pulwama.
“It is further informed that, during the course of investigation and on the basis of vital leads obtained from earlier searches dated 19/11/2022, today the special teams carried out simultaneous searches at seven locations in Srinagar, Budgam and Pulwama districts,” the statement said.
“The premises which were raided today and subsequently searched belong to Showkat Mota in Srinagar, Khaksar Nadeeb Adnan in Srinagar, Haji Hayat in Pampore, Haji Hayat's Office in Srinagar, Ishfaq Reshi in Budgam, Asif Dar (based abroad) and Saqib Magloo in Srinagar,” the statement said.
“Some among above mentioned suspects have been detained for questioning, however, those on whose houses searches were carried earlier are being summoned on daily basis for examination,” the statement said.
“During search, all the legal formalities and SOPs were followed professionally and incriminating materials including mobiles, computers, laptops, pendrives, simcards, Jihadi literature, banking documents, dummy gun, US & Russian currency notes were recovered and seized by the respective teams,” the statement said.
“The investigation in the instant case is going on vigorously and is in advance stage. General public is requested to cooperate with Police and bring any information relevant to this case in the notice of Srinagar Police,” the statement added.
Last week, the police carried out searches in at least 12 residences across the Valley following the online threats to journalists by Kashmir Fight blogger.
“Massive searches in connection with investigation of case related to recent threat to journalists started by Police at 10 locations in Srinagar, Anantnag and Kulgam. Details shall be followed (sic),” said a police spokesman on Twitter.
In a statement, Srinagar police said that simultaneous searches were carried out at various locations across Kashmir in the wake of recent threat issued to journalists by a proscribed terror outfit.
The J&K Police have filed a case vide FIR No. 82/2022 under relevant sections of law at PS Sherghari against terror handlers, active terrorists & terrorist associates of proscribed terror outfit LeT & its offshoot TRF for online publication & dissemination of direct threat letters to Journalists & reporters based in Kashmir
“During the course of investigation, each team comprised of 4-5 members and led by an Inspector/SI rank officer monitored by the SDPO concerned. The raids were supervised by SP South City Srinagar Lakshya Sharma-IPS and launched simultaneous searches at 12 locations across the valley including the houses of fugitives like Sajjad Gul, Mukhtar Baba, active terrorists of proscribed terror outfit LeT (TRF) and other suspects in Srinagar, Anantnag and Kulgam Districts,” it said.
“The premises which were raided and searched belong to Mohd Rafi at Nigeen, Khalid Gul at Anantnag, Rashid Maqbool at Lal Bazar, Momin Gulzar at Eidgah, Basit Dar at Kulgam, Sajjad Kralyari at Rainawari, Gowhar Geelani at Soura, Qazi Shibli at Anantnag, Sajjad Sheikh @Sajjad Gul at HMT Srinagar, Mukhtar Baba at Nowgam, Waseem Khalid at Rawalpora and Adil Pandit at Khanyar Srinagar,” the statement said.
“During search, all the legal formalities were followed professionally and consequent to the searches some suspects have been brought for examination and questioning. The seized materials by the respective search teams include mobiles, laptops, memory cards, pen-drives & other digital devices, documents, bank papers, rubber stamps, passports, other suspect papers, cash, Saudi currency etc,” it said.
“The investigation in the instant case is in full swing and general public is requested to bring any information that is relevant to this case in the notice of Srinagar Police,” it said.
