Kashmir: Injured police officer succumbs in Srinagar
Two cops including a sub-inspector (SI) and Special Police Officer (SPO) were injured after militants opened fire on a police party in Zakura area of Srinagar.
A police officer who was critically injured in a firing incident at Zukura area of Srinagar has succumbed to his injuries.
A police officer told news agency GNS that sub inspector Imran Tak died of bullet wounds here shortly after the attack. He said that the militants were travelling in a vehicle when intercepted by government forces at a checkpoint.
Official sources told news agency GNS that acting upon a specific input, police cordoned off Zakura and launched searches. As the searches were on near suspected spot, hiding militants opened fire, resulting in injuries to two cops including one sub-inspector, who is stated to be in critical condition.
A militant has been reportedly arrested by cops at the firing spot. More details awaited.(GNS)
Meanwhile, Inspector General of Police (Kashmir range) Muneer Ahmad Khan Thursday said the operation in Kund and Waltengu Nar area of Kulgam district continues as two militants are still hiding in the area.
Khan, while addressing a press conference here, said they had specific information about the presence of a group of six militants of LeT and Hizb in the area.
“We started the operation which still continues. We have apprehended three militants while one was killed on the very first day. Also we lost one army Jawan in the operation. We have information about two militants still hiding in the area. So the search operation is on,” he said.
