Kashmir : Newspapers’ publishers urge govt to distribute advertisements fairly

The publishers of scores of newspapers on Monday urged the state government to distribute advertisements fairly and judiciously.
An emergency meeting was held here under the chairmanship of GH Kaloo to deliberate upon the discriminatory and irrational distribution of advertisements by the State Information Department.
According to reports, the publishers and editors of well reputed newspapers assembled at Khidmat Complex and discussed the discriminatory attitude of the Information Department in the distribution of advertisements which smacks of conspiracy of their functionaries of the said department to muzzle the Press and widen the gap between the Media and the government.
The publishers resolved to launch a sustained fight against those who have brought the publishing houses to the brink of closure.
It was further decided to knock the doors of Judiciary if the Information Department follows its partisan role and doesn’t distribute advertisements fairly and judiciously.
The members later called on the Director Information Department and impressed upon him to shun the discriminatory attitude and ensure fair distribution of advertisements among the aggrieved publishing houses.
The Director heard the members patiently and assured redress of all grievances on priority basis.
