Kashmir reel under darkness

Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir has turned white again due to fresh snowfall since late last night after heavy rain and thunders, disrupting power supply in majority areas in the city.
The Mechanical Engineering Department (MED) has pressed into service machines to clear snow on the main roads since early this morning. However, the inner roads and bylanes remain under snow.
Roof, tree tops and roads had turned white in Srinagar and its adjoining areas, resulting in further chill. Everything was under a blanket of white powder.
However, during the month of January, Srinagar recorded highest snowfall in the last three decades, after about six months of long dry spell. A Met department spokesman had already forecast fresh rain and snow during the next 24 hours.
Majority areas in the city, including in the uptown, plunged into darkness as power was snapped since late last night. The internet service Broadband of Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has also been disrupted since yesterday. However, no BSNL official was available for comment.
The Dish TV service was also affected due to snowfall. People could be seen enjoying “Haressa” ( also known as Haleem in South), favourite winter dish prepared from meat in the shops. ”Haressa” is prepared and enjoyed in winters only.
