Kishtwar-Sinthan road thrown open for traffic after 6 months

After nearly six months since the December 2017 snowfall, the prestigious Kishtwar-Sinthan highway was thrown open for vehicular traffic today after the snow was cleared at the Sinthan Top situated at an altitude of 12500 feet above sea level. The Kishtwar-Sinthan highway connects Kishtwar District with Kashmir via Anantnag District of South Kashmir.

Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC), Vice President and MLA Inderwal Ghulam Mohammad Saroori said that road has been thrown open after battling hectic weather conditions and hails the efforts of the people engaged in snow clearance work.

Mr. Saroori congratulated the people of sub-division Chatroo for opening of this road which not only provide road connectivity between Kishtwar and Srinagar, but also raise the economy of the poor people living on both sides. He also appealed to the people of Jammu and Kashmir to visit the Sinthan which would boost the tourism in the area.

“Increase in tourist traffic will resuscitate the economy of the local people of the area as it is the only source of income for them and also the beauty of Sinthan will be highlighted in a positive way,” Saroori said and added that an amount of more than Rs. 21 crores has been sanctioned for blacktopping of the Sinthan road added that he is hopeful that the blacktopping would be started by next month with the increase in temperature.
