Kokernag villagers demand link road, stage protest in Srinagar

‘Successive govt always ignored us. There is no road in our area as a result we are suffering badly’

The villagers from Poru Kokarnaga area of South Kashmir’s Anantnag district held protest against District Administration for their non-serious approach in connection with the construction of a road to the village.

The locals of the area assembled here in Press Enclave Srinagar and staged a protest. They were carrying placards seeking justice.
The protesters alleged that DC Anantnag visited Kokarnag yesterday but paid no attention to their long pending grievance. “The successive governments and officials from district administration always ignored us. There is no road in our area as a result we are suffering badly,” one of the protesters Ajaz Ahmed said.
He said over 2,000 people reside at Poru hamlet. “These people have been deprived of road in the 21st century, which is the era of development and prosperity. It is strange that we have no link road and administration is showing no interest to construct a road. We are facing difficulties in ferrying patients and sick to hospitals. No vehicle can enter into our village and we have to cover long distance to reach our village,” Ajaz Ahmed said.
The protesting villagers have urged upon the Lieutenant Governor to issue necessary directions to the R&B / PMGSY authorities in Kashmir region to construct the road to the village as early as possible so that their sufferings are minimized.
