KU equipping students with skills to enhance their employability prospects: VC

The Centre for Women Studies and Research (CWSR), Kashmir University (KU), in collaboration with Naandi Foundation and Mahindra Pride Classroom, recently concluded a six-day Employability Skills Training Programme aimed at empowering female students with essential employability skills.
The valedictory ceremony was organised Monday (March 25) here. The training programme held from March 13 to March 19, witnessed participation from students across various educational backgrounds and career stages, an official statement issued here read.
“This collaborative effort underscores a shared commitment to women’s empowerment and skill development, aiming to equip participants with practical skills for securing gainful employment in today’s competitive job market,” an official spokesperson in the statement said.
The comprehensive curriculum covered a range of topics, including communication skills, interview techniques (mock interviews), resume writing, leadership development and interpersonal skills, it read.
Through interactive sessions, workshops, and hands-on activities, participants had the opportunity to enhance their professional competencies and confidence. The programme commenced with an inaugural ceremony attended by officials and representatives from KU, CWSR, Naandi Foundation, and Mahindra Pride Classroom.
During the valedictory ceremony, KU Vice Chancellor, Prof Nilofer Khan, emphasised the importance of equipping students with practical skills to enhance their employability prospects.
She announced the University's upcoming collaboration with the Naandi Foundation, aimed at enhancing the employability skills of its students through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and directed the Coordinator CWSR Dr Roshan Ara for framing the memorandum, the statement read further.
“Together, we are empowering women and equipping them with the necessary skills and knowledge for overcoming challenges that enables them to compete in the job market,” Prof Khan said, adding that the partnership will provide holistic education “that prepares students for the challenges of the modern workforce”.
Coordinator, CWSR, Dr Roshan Ara, said that the partnership between CWSR, Naandi Foundation, and Mahindra Pride Classroom has allowed centre to reach more women and make a meaningful impact in their lives.
“KU’s Centre for Women Studies and Research (CWSR) is dedicated to promote gender equality, women’s empowerment and academic excellence and is very keen in taking initiatives that prepare women and men alike to work and compete in the formal sector that in turn helps in their empowerment,” she maintained.
Dr Haris Abrar, faculty from Naandi Foundation, highlighted the foundation’s innovative approach to skill development and social empowerment while sharing his experiences and expertise to the collaboration.
The participants commended the programme for its relevance and effectiveness in addressing their professional development needs, it read.
Dr Shazia Malik, faculty CWSR, proposed the formal vote of thanks, the statement added.
