Life remains affected in Srinagar due to Covid-19

Despite restrictions after fresh lock down was imposed for a week from Monday, the number of COVID-19 positive cases remained above 100 hundred daily in Srinagar, where business and other activities remained crippled on Tuesday.

However, Baramulla, where restriction were eased on Monday reported 41 positive cases while in Bandipora, where three wards in the main town were declared Red Zone 79 fresh positive cases were reported on Monday.
Business and other activities remained crippled on Tuesday due to lock down imposed in Srinagar, where 115 fresh positive cases for COVID-19 were reported on Monday.
An official spokesman said Srinagar has 6263 positive cases, including 115 cases reported on Monday with 2411 Active Positive. He said 3698 patients have recovered, including 95 cases recovered on Monday in Srinagar, where 154 people have died due to virus till last night.
Shops and business establishments remained closed today after the District Magistrate (DM) extended the restrictions on public activities and commercial traffic in Srinagar for another week. The extension has been ordered keeping in mind the COVID-19 situation which continues to exist in the district, he said.
All major business hubs, including Lal Chowk, the nerve centre of the city continued to wore a deserted look with only security forces and some pedestrian seen moving. Goni Khan and Mahraj Bazar markets roads also remained closed though pedestrians were allowed to move.
The Amira Kadal bridge, connecting Hari Singh High Street (HSHS) with civil lines remained closed. Security forces have closed the bridge with barbed wire and only pedestrians were being allowed to cross it through footpath. Today security forces have parked bullet proof vehicles and closed the main road at Jehangir Chowk towards HSHS. Vehicles were being directed to take Budshah bridge to reach civil lines.
There was also no change in the situation at Maisuma, the stronghold of JKLF and adjoining areas. However, private vehicles , particularly two wheelers were seen plying on Budshah Bridge on Moulana Azad road though security forces and police personnel remained deployed.
Defying lock down a number of passenger vehicles could also be seen plying on some routes.
Life remained affected in the down town and Shehar-e-Khas (SeK), where shops and business establishments remained closed and passenger traffic remained off the roads. Security forces have lifted majority nakas and other barricades, in several areas, including Nallahmar road. However, only one side of the road was open and private transport was allowed to ply.
