The Jal Shakti Department has issued an urgent appeal to the residents of Kashmir Valley to conserve drinking water amidst rising temperatures that have significantly increased water consumption.
In a statement released today, authorities emphasised the critical need for judicious water use, urging the public to avoid wastage in activities such as watering lawns, maintaining kitchen gardens, and washing vehicles. The department highlighted that these practices contribute to the escalating demand for water, exacerbating shortages, particularly in the tail-end areas of Srinagar City.
The department also called on consumers using direct online boosters to cease this practice immediately to ensure equitable water distribution across all areas. “This is an offence under the Jammu & Kashmir Water Resources Regulation and Management Act 2010, and the department shall be forced to take action against all such offenders,” the statement warned.
To address any grievances or report water shortages, the public is encouraged to contact the PHE Provincial Control Room, which operates around the clock. The contact numbers are 0194-2477207 and 0194-2452047 (landlines), 18001807027 (toll-free), and 9419413914 and 9419413915 (WhatsApp).
Additionally, the department has appointed Nodal Officers to facilitate the redressal of genuine grievances related to water supply. The officers can be reached at 7006645986, 6005361191, 9596185150, and 7006604905.
The Jal Shakti Department’s proactive measures aim to mitigate the impact of the current water shortage and ensure sustainable water use across the valley. The authorities urge every resident to play their part in conserving this precious resource.
