The family members of incarcerated Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front chairman Muhammad Yasin Malik have said that the condition of Malik who is languishing in New Delhi’s Tihar Jail is deteriorating and they were all worried about the well-being of the front chairman.
A relative said that they recently met Malik at Tihar and saw that he had turned feeble and weak. “After lot of efforts, we managed out meeting with the Malik but there was a big barrier in between us and we had to see him from a long distance,” she said.
She said that Malik has been kept in a solitary confinement where he sees only two policemen a day one of whom brings food to him in the afternoon. “We tried to give Malik two books he had sought, but jail authorities refused saying we can’t allow books for Malik. He is a prisoner but we want to know that prisoner’s too have their rights as per the jail guidelines,” asked the front chairman’s sister.
She said that Malik has turned pale, feeble and weak. “His condition has deteriorated and he is losing his weight. He was taken to unknown hospital in Delhi recently, where doctors told him that he has developed fresh complications with regard to his health,” she said and appealed to civil society groups to take note of the ill treatment meted out to Malik in New Delhi’s Tihar.
She said that Malik’s life was an open book and there was nothing to hide. “He has been living with his parents in a 200-year-old house at Maisuma.
He was first slapped with PSA and then shifted to Delhi where he was handed over to NIA discreetly and then lodged in Tihar where he is being kept in a small cell and not even allowed to see the light of the day,” she alleged. Pertinently, Malik has been sent to judicial custody till May 24 by a Delhi court recently.
