Manipur election results: Anti-AFSPA activist Irom Sharmila loses, garners 85 votes only

The Chief Minister had a cakewalk as he defeated his nearest BJP rival L Basanta by a margin of over 8000 votes at Thoubal,  while the BJP opened its account as its candidate Dr Sapam Ranjan Singh defeated Konthoujam Sharat of the Congress by 2772 votes at Konthoujam.

Ibobi Singh’s another rival Irom Sharmila of the PRJA managed to garner mere 85 votes.

The result will definitely decide the political relevance of anti-AFSPA activist Irom  Sharmila Chanu, who broke her 16-year-old hunger strike last year, to take the political route.

Her party PRJA (Peoples’ Resurgence and Justice Alliance) put up candidates for three seats.Sharmila got support from the Left Democratic Front (LDF) comprising six parties, including CPI,CPI(M), JDU and AAP.
