Market inspection teams book erring traders in Jammu

The Market Checking Teams constituted by the District Administrations Jammu conducted Checking & inspection in different areas of Jammu and booked seven Shopkeepers for indulging into overcharging and unfair trade practices.

To check the instance of overcharging, Black marketing and holding of the essential accommodates and also Medical Equipments used for the prevention of COVID -19 infections two Joint Market Checking Inspection Teams, one headed by Additional Deputy Commissioner (L&O), Jammu alongwith officers from Legal Metrology Department, Magistracy and Revenue Police conducted Market checking in Shalamar, City Chowk, Kanak Mandi and adjoining areas of Jammu City.
Several commercial establishments, which included Chemist Shops, Kiryana Shops Whole Sellers, Fruit/Vegetable Sellers etc. were randomly checked by the visiting team.
During the inspection, two Medical Shops were booked for Noticed Violations under Legal Metrology Act 2009. The traders were cautioned not to indulge in unfair trade practices and were further directed to ensure both quality and quantity to the consumers, display rate lists.
The Market Checking team was lead by Additional Deputy Commissioner, (L&O), Jammu, was accompanied by Assistant Controller Legal Metrology Miss Anita Sharma, Mr. Kuldeep Singh, Naib Tehsilddar, Jammu Khas, SHO City, Jammu, Mr. Deepak Katoch and Inspector Legal Metrology J (U), Miss. Pooja.
Another market checking team headed by Deputy Controller Legal Metrology & Consumer Protection, Manoj Prabhakar carried out Market Checking in Trikuta Nagar, Khuwi Wali Gali, Shastri Nagar and Ghandi Nagar Hospital area.
The team inspected fruit, Vegetable, Milk, Bakery, Kiryana Shops and Medical Device Sellers. Five Shopkeepers were booked, one for overcharging on oximeter, one for short weighing of Milk, one for overcharging on Bakery Items and two Fruits Sellers were booked for using unverified weights and measures.
A fine of Rs 23500 was recovered as composition money from the defaulters. The traders were also warned not to indulge in unethical trade practices in this pandemic situation failing which strict action will be taken.
