In a move that could send security forces into tizzy, the militants after several public appearances have now shown up at Khrew which is just few kilometers away from the summer capital Srinagar.
After appearing in the public processions first at Tral, during the funeral procession of Hizb commander Burhan Wani, the militants later showed up at Kareemabad, then at Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti’s home town Bijbehara, and now at Khrew, which is at a stone’s throw from saffron town Pampore where militants last month had carried a deadly strike on CRPF vehicle.
The militants after a brief show up at the public procession left the venue while, according to eyewitnesses, hundreds of youths amid pro-freedom slogans followed them to get their glimpses.
“Some youth even tried to hug them. But they fled towards some undisclosed location,” They said
In the recent past especially after the 2010 mass unrest, it is almost for the first time that militants have come out in open in Khrew.
The appearance of militants at Khrew sends a strong signal the militants might be stepping into Srinagar.
“This is a worrying trend and if they succeed to do something same in Srinagar, it will create a huge problem. They might be able to attract the youths in Srinagar. If that thing happens the militant movement will become a pan Kashmir thing now,” said a police officer.
