
Minister for Health & Medical Education, Social Welfare, and Education, Sakeena Itoo, today chaired the District Development Board (DDB) meeting in Kupwara to conduct a comprehensive review of the district’s developmental progress.
The meeting was attended by Advisor to the Chief Minister Nasir Aslam Wani, several MLAs, and top officials from various government departments including Deputy Commissioner Ayushi Sudan, Director Generals, Managing Directors, Chief Engineers, and Heads of District and Sectoral Departments.
As Minister in-charge of Kupwara, Sakeena Itoo took a detailed review of all ongoing developmental works and flagship schemes, including PMAY, Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM), MGNREGA, Ujjwala, and other beneficiary-oriented and Centrally Sponsored Schemes. She also assessed the district's performance under the Aspirational Districts Programme, focusing on health, education, infrastructure, and financial inclusion.
Focus on Timely Delivery and Grassroots Outreach
Addressing officers, the Minister reiterated the government’s commitment to the development of border districts like Kupwara, stressing the need for cent percent saturation of welfare schemes and inclusion of all eligible beneficiaries, especially from marginalized groups.
“Our government, led by Omar Abdullah, is committed to the upliftment of people in remote and underserved areas. Kupwara holds immense potential, and we must ensure that the benefits of all government schemes reach the grassroots,” she said.
She instructed all departments to speed up project execution, maintain transparency, and complete works within stipulated timelines. She also stressed field-level monitoring, regular outreach camps, and grievance redressal mechanisms to ensure effective service delivery.
District Achievements and Updates
Earlier, Deputy Commissioner Ayushi Sudan briefed the Minister on the district’s achievements. Highlights included:
₹456.69 crore spent under District CAPEX Budget till March 2025
1,958.80 km of roads macadamized over the last two financial years
Under Jal Jeevan Mission, 129,000 out of 156,000 households connected with Functional Household Tap Connections (FHTCs)
100% expenditure recorded under MGNREGA, with 10,024 houses completed under PMAY-G and 718 under construction
42,640 houses surveyed under PMAY-G 2.0 (2025–26)
Progress was also reported across key sectors such as Health, Education, ICDS, KPDCL, Agriculture, Skill Development, NRLM, and Social Welfare.

On the sidelines of the meeting, Minister Sakeena distributed appointment orders to newly recruited Anganwadi Workers and handed over motorized tricycles to specially abled persons, underscoring the administration’s commitment to social inclusion and empowerment.
