Mirwaiz barred from offering Friday prayers at Jamia Masjid
All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, was once again placed under house arrest by the state administration on Friday morning and stopped from offering congregational Friday prayers at Jamia Masjid also disallowing him from delivering the Friday religious sermon at the mosque. Mirwaiz strongly denounced  locking down the central mosque and sealing all roads leading to it by deploying massive armed forces in and around the Masjid, to stop peoples from assembling there and marching on the call of the unified resistance leaders towards the United Nations (UNMOGIP) office in Sonwar.
APHC Chairman said that time and again, banning Friday prayers at Jamia  Masjid Srinagar, and turning the entire area into a gigantic concentration camp of Indian forces ,for locking people inside their homes ,not only betrayed the dictatorial approach of the ruling class but also their fear of public anger and defiance against state repression and the facade of normalcy that the state want to maintain. Besides it also shows the scant respect the state has for the religious rights of the people.
He said efforts to silence and gag every institution of public expression including mosques is part of the state policy to crush dissent and the pulpit  of Jamia Masjid Srinagar, being the strongest votary of people’s aspirations and sentiments is always the main target of the state . Mirwaiz said repressing people’s voice has neither worked in the past and nor will it in future it only exposes the perpetuators and weakens their tactics further.
Terming the arrests and detentions of resistance leaders and workers in various places and using brutal force on peaceful protest demonstrators as condemnable, he said such aggression and twist-arm tactics adopted against resistance leaders would not in any way be able to crush a popular peoples’ movement.
Paying glowing tributes to Muhammad Maqbool Bhat and Muhammad Afzal Guru on their martyrdom anniversaries, the APHC Chairman said Kashmiri nation would never forget the selfless sacrifices of these great sons of soil and other tens and thousands of martyrs who have laid their life for the rights of people of Kashmir.
He said the great sacrifices offered by the people of Kashmir seeking the resolution of Kashmir dispute as per internationally accepted norms and in accordance with the will and aspirations of the people and also for seeking justice had attracted international attention to the vexed humanitarian issue and had increased awareness about the importance of its resolution.
Meanwhile, an APHC spokesman strongly condemning the house arrest of the Mirwaiz and stopping him from performing his religious obligations, continued house arrest of veteran resistance leader Syed Ali Geelani, arrest of Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front Chairman Muhammad Yasin Malik, house arrest of senior Hurriyat leader Mukhtar Ahmad Waza, and detaining two Hurriyat office bearers at Police Station Rajbagh after arresting them from outside the APHC party headquarters, said such tactics of the ruling regime were only meant to stifle all voices demanding the just right of Kashmiris with the use of brutal force and aggression.
