You are essentially a bad human being if you are not a feminist'' once said by Bollywood actress Kalki Koechlin at a show. I wonder if she also talked about men who are suffering at the hands of women. Because if she didn't, then it goes against the equality. Because if we are to speak of equality and the movement against man's oppression against women is feminism, then what's the movement called when the woman happens to be the oppressor?
There is no such movement, no belief system, no term, none, except some subedits, websites and Facebook pages. And that in itself is the absence of equality. Now you might argue, since the inception of human kind, man has been the oppressor, so there is no movement or cause that man needs. Well, causes are attached with time, back in the day, men may haven't felt to invent such a cause, and feminism was right to occur and is still relevant in many parts of world.
But now in the modern world with the shift of legal power, laws made in favour of women, with the rising number of cases where men gets screwed, you're wrong to assume that there need to be a movement equivalent to feminism for men who suffer at the hands of women. Which proves if u don't talk about men's rights in a discussion on equality, then you are not taking about equality at all. Now you might ask, in what cases do men suffer ? How can that possibly be? Because in your head, the man is supreme oppressor?
Google misuse of 498A-thats the dowry law. Look at the number of suicides men have committed. I am sure examples of several men pushed to their death might have an impact on you.Then ,fake rape cases. Now to you might be a canard, a mere fantasy men like to use their defence or benefit to abuse feminism. Google "fake rape cases in India." Then also, consider the divorce laws set in favour of women all around the world. Also, while you're at it, just observe the marriage proposals in India, women seeking men earn thrice the money. Visit any of these matrimonial sites and you will find thousands of new girls signing up everyday, doing the same. But I don't see you preaching to any of these women the true meaning of feminism and equality! To that, you might reply, well, men don't seem to have the problem with it. They are happily marrying girls earning substantially less than they do! They are doing it because that's normal. When you talk about feminism ,you are basically talking about breaking the set norms, very similar to the norm which is regressive and sexiest to men. A guy would happily marry a girl earning the same as he does, but girls more than usually don't marry such guys. It's they who go for big bucks. Hence giving the middle figure to equality.
"Feminism is looked down upon because it's seen as a man hating. But feminism is a real crazy idea that suggests Men and Women are equal." So what every feminist basically wants is equality, and there are no women, none, who actually use feminism as a grab for man hating? Because to put blame on men that they have misunderstood the meaning of feminism, basically implies that you have personally interviewed and studied every woman who calls herself a feminist and then concluded that men have gotten the wrong impression. So there aren't women who think feminism means they are superior to men? That they are special beings and deserve special treatment, have double standards and feel they are above moral scrutiny? You might answer, "no, i don't mean that." Sadly that's exactly what above quote means. Because if you didn't mean that then you could have said, "It's looked down because it's seen as a man hating and also because in several cases crazy but jobs thinks it means they're superior and display double standards." But feminism is a really crazy idea that suggests Men and Women are equal,and a lot of women need to understand this more than others, for others to respect this crazy idea.
Instead of saying this, what you're actually saying is: the only reason feminism is criticized is because it's seen as man hating. So basically it's wrongly perceived. The fault is with the translator. That makes one who thinks it man-hating either is a chauvinist , prejudiced or an idiot, because he either doesn't want to or unable to understand that feminism means equality.
When you are not even entertaining the possibility that may be guys have seen some women using the women cards to their benefit, playing victims, crapping on equality and demanding special treatment, being unfair, having double standards, using feminism to their advantage, using laws to their advantage, then why should one take you seriously? Oh, because it makes us bad people. "I feel one should come up with a basic ABCD article on feminism, if you are not a feminist, you are a bad human being, being feminism means equality."
So, those who don't embrace feminism are basically bad people. Does that apply to girls as well? I know few people, and they are decent people. Sad to find out that they are basically pieces of shit for not being feminists. The reason why there isn't a clear definition of feminism is because there are different types of feminism who opposes one another. Actually many of these types will severely blast you using the word, "asking", being a feminist means asking for equality. "Ask whom? Men? We don't need to ask men for anything. How can you be a feminist and ask men for equality." (To Be Continued)
