The Srinagar centre of the Indian Meteorological Department has forecasted a fresh spell of rains and snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday.
“A fresh western disturbance is moving towards J&K and it is likely to become active on November 27 which will bring more rain and snowfall,” Sonam Lotus, the director of the station told Brighter Kashmir.
Meanwhile, Leh in Ladakh recorded minus 6.3 degree Celsius, thereby turning into the coldest place in the country, whereas Jammu and Kashmir recorded a mild rise in temperature after dropping several degrees below the season’s average.
Apart from Leh, other nearby places, such as Gulmarg and Kargil in north Kashmir also recorded sub-zero night temperatures, i.e., minus 3.8 and minus 1.3 degree Celsius respectively.
Latest reports suggest that the high altitudes of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, including Gulmarg witnessed fresh snowfall, whereas the plains were lashed by partly light to moderate rains between November 21 and 23.
During this part of the season, Srinagar’s maximum temperature was recorded 12.4 degrees Celsius, i.e., just 1.4 degrees below the normal. Srinagar’s minimum temperature settled to 4.9 degrees Celsius as against 3.2 degrees Celsius, which is 4.8 degrees above the season's average, the weatherman reported.
Also, as per weather official’s reports, Jammu experienced maximum temperature at 24.3 degree Celsius, which fell by 0.8 notches, whereas the night temperature in the city fell by more than two degrees to settle at 12.9 degrees Celsius, as against the previous night's 15 degrees Celsius.
The weatherman also reported that Katra, the base camp for the pilgrims visiting the Vaishno Devi shrine, recorded a maximum temperature of 21.5 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 11.6 degrees Celsius.
The weatherman has, as of now, forecasted dry weather in most parts of two union territories in the next two days, which might likely be followed by a brief spell of rain or snow at most places on November 27.
