October 08, 2019 | BK NEW DESK/SRINAGAR

In a series of tweets, Mehbooba Mufti said she was happy that green activists were able to halt tree felling but asked why not the same right for Kashmiris.
, Hitting out at the Centre over the security clampdown in Kashmir after the abrogation of Article 370, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chief Mehbooba Mufti said trees in the Aarey Colony of Mumbai were greater than Kashmiri lives.
Following the Supreme Court's direction to the Maharashtra government to halt tree felling in Aarey, Mehbooba Mufti, whose Twitter is presently handled by her daughter Iltija, stated that Aarey trees were greater than Kashmiri lives.
In another tweet from the handle of former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti said she was glad that activists were able to stop the felling of trees in Aarey and asked why not the same right to Kashmiris. I just wish our judges would also take human rights cases up with the same alacrity as they do tree rights!
"One wonders why Kashmiris have been deprived of the very same right to free speech and expression. The government claims they are now at par with other Indians but truth is they've been stripped of even fundamental rights," the tweet said.
