The Muslim world needs to make collective, concerted efforts to excel in the areas of research to create a common knowledge economy aligned with Islamic intellectual and cultural identity and values.

The proposition was floated by Ayatullah Alireza Arafi, chairman, board of governors, Al Mustafa International University, Qom while addressing a session titled ‘Global Social Agenda and the Muslim Response’ which was held at Institute of Policy Studies (IPS), Islamabad.

The renowned Irani cleric is currently heading a five-member delegation from Iran to Pakistan vis-à-vis celebrations of 40th year of the Iranian revolution.

Arafi was of the opinion that despite facing continued challenges of war and international restrictions, Iran was able to develop itself significantly in the areas of humanities, science and technology and was in a position to play a leadership role for the Muslim world in this regard.

Talking about the challenges faced by the global Muslim community and its response, Dr Arafi opined that the Muslim nations across the world need to work together in a bid to acquire academic and professional excellence in contemporary disciplines.

The Iranian scholar was positive that there was also a lot to gain from the academic cooperation between the neighboring Iran and Pakistan, and if pursued, a headway in this regard can be made through collaboration between Pakistani and Iranian institutions in the areas of common interest
