The people across Kashmir are celebrating Navroz today with the festival coincides with the spring equinox of March 21 when the day and night span equal duration.
Meanwhile different politicians and state heads greeted people on Navroz.
Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti has felicitated people of the State on the occasion of Navroz.
In her message on the occasion, the Chief Minister hoped the festival, which she said has religious and cultural significance, becomes harbinger of peace, progress and prosperity for the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
This day also marks the beginning of plantation season in the State.
Mehbooba Mufti appealed people to join hands on this occasion in planting more and more trees for preserving the environment.
Governor N. N. Vohra has greeted people on the auspicious occasion of Nauroz, which is also observed as World Arbour Day.
In his message of felicitations, the Governor observed that this festival has important cultural and religious significance and appealed that one and all should join hands in planting trees for saving our rapidly deteriorating environment.
The Governor hoped that this auspicious day would be the harbinger of peace, progress and prosperity in the State.
Deputy Chief Minister, Dr Nirmal Singh also felicitated the people of Jammu and Kashmir on the auspicious occasion of Nauroz.
In his message of felicitations, Dy CM hoped that this auspicious day would be the harbinger of peace, progress and prosperity in the State. He hoped that the day will herald a new era of peace and progress in the State.
He observed that the festival has both cultural and religious significance while noting that this day is also observed as World Arbour Day and emphasized on the need to plant the maximum number of trees for preserving the environment.
Chairman Legislative Council, Haji Anayat Ali has greeted people of Jammu and Kashmir, on the eve of Nauroz being celebrated in the continent with traditional fervor. The day is also being observed as World Arbor Day.
Extending warm greetings to the people, the Chairman hoped that the festival will prove harbinger of peace, progress and prosperity for the State and its people.
Haji Anayat Ali said Jammu and Kashmir is a state where people belonging to different religions and speaking various languages have been living in peace and tranquility since centuries.
National Conference President Dr Farooq Abdullah and Working President Omar Abdullah on Monday greeted the people of the State on the eve of Navroz. Praying for peace and prosperity in the State, Dr. Farooq and Mr. Omar Abdullah highlighted the State’s rich legacy and inheritance of brotherhood and amity.
In their greeting message on Navroz-e-Alam, Dr. Farooq Abdullah and Mr.Omar Abdullah expressed hope that the day will herald peace, prosperity and progress in the State and the country while reminding the significance of March 21 as the World Arbour Day.
NC General Secretary Ali Mohammad Sagar, Additional General Secretary Dr. Sheikh Mustafa Kamal, Provincial President Nasir Aslam Wani and Chief Spokesperson Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi have also greeted people on the occasion of Navroz.
