Jammu and Kashmir National Conference vice president Omar Abdullah  on Wednesday expressed grief over the loss of lives in the valley due to the incessant weather condition, hail storm, urging the governor administration to make up to the losses suffered by people on priority basis.

Party vice president said the recent calamitous weather condition has led to both material and non-material losses to the people across Kashmir. “It is the duty of the governor administration to provide succor to the families who stand affected by the vagaries of weather. There have been reports of massive losses to households, orchids, paddy lands across Kashmir including Beerwah. I urge the administration to come up with a contingency plan to mitigate the problems people across Kashmir are facing in the wake of incessant rains and hail storm. The administration should gear up its ground staff to ensure that all basic services including electricity are restored. I urge the administration to recompense the losses to people as soon as possible.”

Party’s Member of Parliament elect from Baramulla Muhammad Akbar lone while expressing grief over material and non-material losses to the people in north Kashmir said, “The other day the vagaries of weather have caused immense losses to the people. Unfortunately two women were also devoured by the vagaries of weather in chandaji village of bandipura district in north Kashmir after a tree fell on them following a wind storm.”

“The windstorm has played havoc with the lives of people in the whole of north Kashmir including Lolab, Pattan, and Tangmarg.   The span of the losses is immense, people across north Kashmir have been worst effected by the frenzy of weather. The flash flood has destroyed settlements, orchids and farmlands. At many places people have lost all they had. I take this opportunity to impress upon the governor administration to depute revenue teams to the affected wind storm affected areas of north Kashmir,” he added.

Meanwhile party’s Member of Parliament elect from Anantnag parliament constituency Hasnain Masoodi has also sought immediate attention of the administration to mitigate the problems that have arisen following wind storm and incessant rains in parts of Kulgam and Anantnag areas.  “Many south Kashmir areas have suffered enormous material losses; property worth lakhs of rupees has been lost. There has been damage to the orchids and other standing crops. The marginalized orchidists and farmers are the worst hit.  I urge the governor administration to rise up to the occasion and depute revenue teams to access the losses to people across south Kashmir.”

“I have been getting calling from different parts of the south Kashmir, particularly Kund, Qazigund areas where standing crops have been totally damaged by the vagaries of weather. There has been enormous damage to many roads, culverts and houses in the area. I urge the administration to rise up to the exigencies of the occasion and issue free ration to the affected families especially those who draw their sustenance from paddy cultivation.”

Party’s district president Ganderbal Sheikh Ishfaq Jabbar has also urged the governor administration to depute revenue teams to the district to access the losses to people. District president has sought effective compensation for the affected families.
