A middle-rung National Conference (NC) leader was shot by suspected militants at Thajeewara Bijbihara area of the restive south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Thursday.
Sources said the leader identified as Mohammad Ismail, who is the block president of National Conference in Bijbehara, was shot at and injured by suspected militants at Thajeewara Bijbihara on Thursday.
Soon after the shooting, the unknown gunmen managed to escape from the area while locals gathered at the spot and called up the ambulance for help.
Officials said the injured who was formerly a Sarpanch, was immediately shifted to Bijbehara hospital for medical help from where he was referred to Srinagar’s SMHS hospital for specialized treatment.
Meanwhile, a joint team of army and police arrived in the area and launched search operation to nab the attackers. However, no arrests were made till the time this resport was filed,
Meanwhile, NC vice-president and former chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Omar Abdullah prayed for the speedy recovery of party worker.
“My @JKNC_ colleague Mohd Ismail Wani, block President Bijbehara block in South Kashmir of has been shot & injured. He has been referred to Srinagar. Praying for his recovery,” Omar tweeted.
