‘Negligence’ kills Covid patient at Ramban hospital

A Covid-19 patient died due to medical negligence at a hospital in Jammu, prompting the J&K administration to order a probe.

Officials said the deceased identified as Abdul Qudoos, a resident of Banihal, died on Sunday at at District Hospital Ramban. His family alleged that he died due to alleged negligence of doctors on duty.
“When his condition worsened on Sunday morning, we met with the on-duty doctor and asked him to help him. Instead of coming to his rescue, the doctor facilitated the killing of Qudoos,” his family said.
According to reports, the doctor were asked by family to put their patient on the ventilator, “He told us that he ‘did not know how to operate the machine’,” the family said.
Reports said the patient succumbed due to lack of oxygen due to “defunct ventilator”, the family said while demanding strict action against the erring hospital staff including the doctor.
A video in which the patient is seen lying unattended at the hospital has also gone viral with netizens blaming the administration for medical negligence.
“We have issued a show cause notice to the staff and administration and action would be taken if they are found guilty,” Medical Superintendent District Hospital Ramban, Abdul Hameed Zargar said.
