Govt orders probe into GMC Udhampur incident

Udhampur, Jan 28: The Jammu and Kashmir government has ordered a formal enquiry into the events that led to the circulation of videos on social media related to an incident at Government Medical College (GMC) Udhampur on Jan 27.

Under Government Order No. 67 JK (HME) of 2026, Prof. Dr. Ashutosh Gupta, Principal of Government Medical College Jammu, has been appointed as the Inquiry Officer to conduct a detailed investigation.

The enquiry will examine the circumstances, sequence of events, and administrative, security, and institutional aspects surrounding the incident. The Inquiry Officer has been directed to submit a comprehensive report within 15 days of the order.

The directive, issued by the Health and Medical Education Department and signed by Secretary Dr. Syed Abid Rasheed Shah, has been circulated to senior officials, including the Chief Minister’s office, the Lieutenant Governor, Ministry of Home Affairs, and concerned principals for necessary action.

The government’s move comes in response to the emergence of videos from GMC Udhampur, prompting official scrutiny and a time-bound investigation.
