Baramulla, Aug. 5: Fear and panic have deepened in the Microwave Kanli area of Friend Colony, Kanli Bagh, Baramulla, after a leopard reportedly attacked and killed one sheep on Wednesday, adding to growing concerns over repeated leopard sightings in the locality.
According to residents, two leopards have been roaming the area for nearly a month, frequently entering residential localities and nearby orchards. The latest attack has intensified fear among locals, who say children, elderly people, and livestock remain at constant risk.
Residents alleged that despite repeated sightings and several appeals to the authorities, no effective action had been taken to capture the wild animals. They expressed concern that the situation could lead to a serious tragedy if immediate steps are not taken.
Following the latest incident, locals once again urged the Wildlife Department to launch an intensified operation to trap the leopards and ensure the safety of residents. They appealed to the administration to treat the matter with urgency and prevent further attacks on livestock or people.
The incident has created an atmosphere of fear across the area, with many residents avoiding outdoor movement during the evening and early morning hours. Locals said they hope the authorities will act swiftly to restore a sense of safety in the community.
