August 08, 2026 | BK NEWS SERVICE

Srinagar, Aug 8: Authorities have finalised elaborate arrangements for the mega Tiranga Rally from SKICC to the Botanical Garden on August 12 and the Independence Day celebrations at Bakshi Stadium.
Principal Secretary Culture Department Brij Mohan Sharma and Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Anshul Garg jointly reviewed the preparations at the Tourist Reception Centre (TRC), directing departments to ensure vibrant, patriotic and well-coordinated events.
Sharma called for innovative, theme-based arrangements along the rally route, including selfie points at SKICC and the Botanical Garden, with NCC volunteers deployed to assist participants. The R&B Department was asked to undertake theme-based colouring of tree trunks, while the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) will install the National Flag on electric poles along the route.
He also directed officials to sensitise participants about the National Flag Code and organise a Shikara Tiranga Rally on Dal Lake. Theme-based stalls and exhibitions at SKICC, along with cultural programmes, band performances and felicitation of VVIPs, war widows and war heroes, were also reviewed.
Garg directed all departments to ensure large-scale participation and smooth mobilisation of participants to SKICC. He stressed foolproof security arrangements, effective traffic management and adequate transport facilities.
A joint committee comprising officials from SMC, Police and the Sainik Welfare Department will monitor compliance with the Flag Code. The Divisional Commissioner also called for mass participation in the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign and observance of the National Song.
Arrangements for drinking water, uninterrupted power supply, cleanliness, sanitation, first-aid camps and ambulances were also reviewed.
For the Independence Day function at Bakshi Stadium, Garg directed officials to ensure seamless arrangements for the parade, band contingents, cultural programmes, security passes and seating. Preparations for Air Force flower-petal showers, illumination of government buildings, appointment of nodal officers and commentators were also reviewed.
He stressed strict adherence to protocol during the hoisting of the National Flag and singing of the National Anthem, besides advance briefing of participants on the programme schedule.
Senior officers from police, civil administration, security agencies and various departments attended the meeting.
