Jammu, Feb 13: The J&K Assembly witnessed a heated debate after BJP MLA Vikram Randhawa claimed that people from the Kashmir Valley had encroached on government land in Jammu. Social Welfare Minister Sakina Itoo responded that encroachments are being addressed under the Public Premises Act, with 34 anti-encroachment drives recovering 140 kanals of land since January 2025.
Randhawa alleged that 90% of encroachments involved Kashmiris, prompting protests from ruling party members. Itoo emphasized that land retrieval should not be viewed through regional lenses and highlighted measures such as fencing, signage, and strict action against delinquent officials.
