Srinagar, Jan 25:The 16th National Voters’ Day was observed in Srinagar on Sunday , with Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Anshul Garg highlighting the importance of active democratic participation and informed voting in strengthening the electoral process.
Addressing the gathering at an official event, Garg stressed that voting is not just a constitutional right but a civic responsibility. He encouraged citizens, especially first-time voters and youth, to actively participate in elections and contribute to building a strong and inclusive democracy.
The Divisional Commissioner underlined the role of voter awareness in ensuring free, fair, and transparent elections, stating that informed voters are the backbone of a healthy democratic system. He also appreciated the efforts of the Election Commission of India in promoting voter education and outreach programmes across the region.
The event marked the 16th National Voters’ Day, celebrated annually on January 25 to commemorate the foundation day of the Election Commission of India. Various awareness activities were organised to promote electoral participation, with officials reiterating their commitment to enhancing voter engagement in the Kashmir division.
