19 militants held, arms seized in joint ops

Imphal, Aug 4: Security forces have arrested 19 anti-national elements and recovered 10 weapons, explosives and war-like stores during a series of intelligence-based joint operations conducted across Manipur and Upper Assam over the past 10 days.

The coordinated operations were carried out from July 24 to August 2, 2026, by formations of the Indian Army and Assam Rifles under Spear Corps, in close coordination with the Manipur Police and Central Armed Police Forces.
The operations covered multiple sensitive districts, including Ukhrul, Imphal East, Kakching, Tengnoupal, Chandel and Thoubal in Manipur, besides areas in Upper Assam.
According to officials, the joint operations were launched on the basis of specific intelligence inputs to dismantle militant networks, prevent anti-national activities and enhance security in the region.
During the operations, security forces apprehended 19 suspected militants belonging to different insurgent groups. They also recovered 10 weapons, explosives and other war-like stores from various locations.
Officials said the recovered arms and ammunition have been seized for further investigation, while the arrested individuals have been handed over to the concerned police authorities for legal action.
The Army said the intelligence-driven operations reflect the close coordination among the Indian Army, Assam Rifles, Manipur Police and Central security forces in maintaining peace, disrupting insurgent activities and strengthening the security grid in the Northeast.
