Srinagar, Sep 19: The J&K Cyber Crime Coordination Centre has launched a dedicated mechanism to strengthen the response to online financial fraud and ensure quicker assistance to victims, officials said.

SSP J&K Cyber Crime Coordination Centre Muhammad Yaseen Kichloo (IPS), who is in-charge of the centre, announced the initiative and urged people who fall victim to cyber fraud to report incidents immediately through the national cybercrime helpline 1930.
Kichloo said timely reporting is crucial in cases involving unauthorised online transactions, as early intervention can help initiate necessary measures to trace and secure the defrauded amount.
The dedicated mechanism is aimed at improving coordination in handling cybercrime complaints and facilitating prompt redressal for victims. It will also strengthen efforts to respond to the growing range of digital frauds involving online banking, UPI transactions, digital payments and other technology-enabled financial crimes.
Authorities have advised citizens not to delay reporting after noticing any suspicious or unauthorised transaction. Victims are encouraged to provide transaction details and other relevant information while registering their complaints to assist investigators in taking timely action.
The cybercrime authorities have also stressed the importance of remaining vigilant while using digital banking and payment platforms. Citizens have been advised not to share OTPs, PINs, passwords or other confidential banking credentials with unknown persons and to exercise caution while responding to suspicious calls, messages or links.
The launch of the dedicated mechanism comes amid growing concerns over cyber-enabled financial fraud and the need for faster coordination between victims, banks, law-enforcement agencies and cybercrime authorities.
Kichloo reiterated the appeal to citizens to report cyber fraud immediately on 1930, stressing that prompt reporting can be critical to the recovery and protection of funds.
The initiative is expected to strengthen the Union Territory’s cybercrime response system and improve public access to assistance in cases of digital financial fraud.
