
Kargil, Nov 9: In Ladakh, the much-awaited 1st Fateh Cup Football Tournament 2025 was inaugurated with great enthusiasm at the Astro Turf Football Ground, Khel Gaon, Kurbathang, Kargil. The inaugural ceremony was graced by Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon, Hon’ble Chairman and Chief Executive Councillor (CEC), LAHDC Kargil, as the Chief Guest, while Tahir Hussain Zubdavi, Joint Director, Youth Services and Sports, UT Ladakh, attended as the Guest of Honour.
Organised by the Department of Youth Services and Sports, UT Ladakh, in collaboration with the Kargil Football Association under the aegis of the Ladakh Football Association and supported by the Indian Army, the tournament aims to honour the valour and supreme sacrifices of the martyrs of Kargil from 1948 to 1999.
A total of eight top football clubs from Kargil are participating in this inaugural edition, making it one of the most promising football events in the region.
Prominent attendees at the event included Issa Khan, Accounts Officer; Anayat Ali, General Secretary, Ladakh Taekwondo Association; Hani Hanifa, President, Kargil Football Association; Abdul Hamid, Mohd Ibrahim Shoqi, officials, players, and sports enthusiasts.
In his address, Dr. Mohd Jaffer Akhoon lauded the initiative and extended heartfelt thanks to the Department of Youth Services and Sports, UT Ladakh, and the Indian Army for supporting the noble cause. He said that the Fateh Cup represents not only a sporting competition but also a symbol of remembrance, unity, and national pride.
Dr. Akhoon remarked, “This tournament, though starting at a local level, has the potential to grow into a national event with participation from teams across India. It will serve as a befitting tribute to the martyrs who defended our motherland with unmatched courage.” He assured the organising committee of full cooperation and support from LAHDC Kargil in future editions.
Speaking on the occasion, Tahir Hussain Zubdavi appreciated the efforts of the organisers and stated that the Fateh Cup provides a valuable platform for the youth of Ladakh to showcase their football talent. He expressed confidence that the tournament would soon evolve into a grand sporting event of national importance, promoting sportsmanship, discipline, and unity among the youth.
