The 1st UT Ladakh Thang-Tha Championship concluded at Public Park Changrah, near MPS Saliskote, showcasing the martial arts talent of more than 150 players from various parts of Ladakh. The tournament organised by Ladakh Thang-Tha Association under the aegies of Thang-Tha Federation of India, was conducted under the expert supervision of National Referee Tariq Hassan and his team from the J&K Thang-Tha Association.
Syed Mehraj Ud Din Shah, General Secretary of the District Kargil Olympic Association, was the Chief Guest, and Anayat Ali Shotopa, General Secretary of the Ladakh Taekwondo Association, was the Guest of Honour. Among the other attendees were Mohammad Hassan, General Secretary of Ladakh Thang-Tha Association, along with senior sports enthusiasts, parents, and players.
Anayat Ali Shotop expressed his appreciation for the growing popularity of martial arts sports such as Thang-Tha, Taekwondo, Boxing, and Karate in Ladakh. He emphasized the remarkable achievements of Ladakhi players at both national and international levels. Anayat Ali also mentioned that the formation of the Ladakh Sports Council would significantly benefit athletes, helping to ease their challenges and providing greater opportunities for development.
Syed Mehraj Ud Din Shah thanked the Thang-Tha Federation of India for their support of the Ladakh Thang-Tha Association and praised the dedicated efforts of Mudassir Hussain Wazir, President Ladakh Thang-Tha Association, and Mohammad Hassan, General Secretary. Shah remarked on the rapid development of the sports sector in Ladakh following its transition to a Union Territory, with more avenues opening for players.
The event concluded with an impressive demonstration of sword fighting by players from Kashmir, which was met with great enthusiasm from both the audience and participants. Prizes, trophies, and medals were distributed to the winning players, and mementos were presented to the officials in recognition of their hard work and dedication.
