
Police in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district on Friday arrested two persons for allegedly killing a stray dog.
Police said the incident surfaced through social media and local sources, sparking widespread condemnation for its cruelty.
Taking serious note of the matter, Police Station Safapora registered an FIR under relevant sections of law, including the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.
During investigation, the accused were identified and subsequently apprehended. Further legal proceedings are underway, police said.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ganderbal, Khalil Ahmad Poswal said cruelty towards animals is a punishable offence and will not be tolerated.
He urged people to treat animals with compassion and report cases of animal abuse promptly.
