Srinagar, Jun 10 : The Jammu and Kashmir Minister for Youth Services and Sports Satish Sharma on Wednesday said 223 sportspersons have been selected for gazetted and non-gazetted posts under the sports quota in the union territory.
The appointment letters would be handed over by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah at a formal function soon, the minister said.
Sharma said the selected athletes include Olympians Chain Singh, apart from those who have represented the country and the Union Territory in other international and national championships.
The candidates belong to various disciplines, including shooting, kayaking & canoeing, taekwondo, gymnastics, chess, weightlifting, cycling and skiing, among others.

He said the administration was working to strengthen support systems for local athletes with an aim to connect youth from Jammu and Kashmir to national and international sports platforms.
The minister urged students and young people to draw inspiration from the 223 selected sportspersons, asserting that sports played a key role in both character-building and nation-building.
