28th J&K Taekwondo championship begins

Jammu, Jan 20: The 28th J&K UT Taekwondo Championships 2025–26 were inaugurated with great enthusiasm on January 19, 2026, at the Indoor Hall, Bhagwati Nagar, Jammu. The prestigious four-day championship will continue until January 22, 2026.

The event is being organised by the Jammu & Kashmir Taekwondo Association under the aegis of the Taekwondo Federation of India and the J&K Sports Council. Around 500 players from various districts of the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir are participating across different age and weight categories, reflecting the growing popularity of Taekwondo in the region.
The opening ceremony was graced by the Chief Guest, Shri Gh Nabi Tantrey, Chairman, Doon International School, Jammu. Other dignitaries present included Shri Ajay Anand (DySP, APHQ), Padma Shri awardee Shri Faisal Ali Dar, and Mrs Ritika Salathia, Manager, Indoor Stadium Bhagwati Nagar, Jammu.
The championship is being led by Shri Rajesh Pangotra, President, J&K Taekwondo Association, and Shri Ramesh Chander Sharma, General Secretary, JKTA, who welcomed the guests and participants and highlighted the importance of sports in youth development, discipline, and character building.
The technical conduct of the championship is being efficiently managed by Shri Atul Pangotra and Shri Brinder Singh Manhas (Technical Delegate), supported by a team of national and state referees and officials.
The dignitaries congratulated the J&K Taekwondo Association for successfully organising the event and encouraged young athletes to uphold sportsmanship, dedication, and discipline while striving for excellence at national and international levels.
