2nd J&K Int’l breast cancer conference begins at KU

The University of Kashmir (KU) inaugurated the Second J&K International Conference on Breast and Allied Cancers (2nd JK-IBAC-2025) on Monday. The three-day event is being organized by KU’s Department of Bioresources in collaboration with Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) and Government Medical College (GMC), Srinagar, and sponsored by the Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF), Department of Science and Technology, Government of India.

The conference provides a multidisciplinary platform for clinicians, researchers, academicians, and healthcare professionals to discuss advances in prevention, diagnosis, and management of breast and allied cancers. It emphasizes research integration, community awareness, and public engagement.
Vice Chancellor Prof. Nilofer Khan highlighted KU’s contributions to cancer research and stressed the importance of grassroots awareness and outreach. Renowned oncologist Prof. Sameer Koul of Apollo Hospitals, New Delhi, called for standardized clinical protocols and regular consensus meetings on breast cancer care.
Principal of GMC Srinagar and Dean, School of Medicine and Allied Medical Sciences, Prof. Dr. Iffat Hassan Shah, underlined the need to address social stigma, promote early detection, and raise awareness among women. Dr. Younis Iftikhar Munshi, Deputy Director General, CCRUM, Ministry of AYUSH, highlighted integrating modern science with traditional medicine in cancer research.
The conference features keynote lectures, technical sessions, panel discussions, oral and poster presentations covering topics such as stem cell research, cancer epigenetics, medical and surgical oncology, drug discovery, radiotherapy, diagnostics, artificial intelligence in oncology, and cancer prevention.
A souvenir and abstract book of the conference, along with faculty publications, were released during the inaugural session. The event has drawn participation from leading clinicians, scientists, researchers, and students from across India and abroad, fostering collaboration and strengthening awareness initiatives against cancer.
