Srinagar, April 23: The administration has intensified war on drugs and demolished three houses belonging to alleged drug peddlers in Jammu on Thursday.
Amid heavy deployment of police and CRPF personnel, the authorities demolished structures allegedly built using proceeds from drug trafficking in the Rajiv Nagar area.
A senior official said the demolition drive is part of an ongoing campaign against notorious drug peddlers in the region.
“We conducted a similar drive here two to three months ago. Some more drug peddlers have since been identified, and they are currently absconding. The illegal structures constructed from money earned through the drug trade are being demolished today. Three structures are being razed,” the official told reporters here.
“Drug-related activities are harming our society and ruining our children. We want to engage our youth in sports and positive activities. This effort is part of our contribution towards the nation’s progress and development,” he said.
Officials reiterated that the administration will continue its action against drug networks and their assets in the region.
Meanwhile, police has deployed its canine unit (Narcotic Dog Squad) to strengthen action against drug trafficking in the district.
As part of a special enforcement drive, trained sniffer dogs have been deployed at multiple checkpoints in Srinagar and south Kashmir’s Shopian district to detect concealed narcotics.
“The canine unit plays a crucial role in identifying hidden contraband, enabling timely recovery and apprehension of those involved in illicit drug trade. The initiative aims to disrupt the supply chain of narcotics and act as a strong deterrent to drug peddlers,” a police official said.
The police is also carrying out intensified vehicle checking operations.
Suspicious vehicles are thoroughly searched at designated naka points in strict adherence to established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
In a related development, police have launched a dedicated Anonymous Anti-Drug Tip Line in Baramulla and Sopore, to encourage citizens to share information regarding drug-related activities.
“The initiative aims to strengthen public participation in the fight against narcotics and ensure a safer, drug-free society. Citizens can now confidentially provide inputs by contacting the anti-drug tip line number 9596767701. The police have assured that the identity of informants will be kept strictly confidential. The said number is under the direct supervision and personal custody of SSP Baramulla, ensuring prompt attention and swift action on every credible input received,” a police spokesman said.
Police in Sopore have also launched a dedicated anonymous anti-drug Tip Line for reporting drug-related activities.
“Citizens can report any information related to drug peddling or substance abuse by contacting 9596773144. The identity of the informer will be kept strictly confidential. The initiative is being directly monitored by District Police Office Sopore, ensuring prompt action on credible inputs,” the spokesman said.
Police has urged public to come forward and actively support this initiative by reporting any information related to drug peddling, substance abuse, or suspicious activities in their areas.
