Jammu, Feb 4: Three terrorists of the Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) outfit were killed in two separate encounters in Kishtwar and Udhampur districts of Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday.
A defence spokesman here said one terrorist was killed during Operation Trashi-I in the forest area of Kishtwar.
“During the search operation in the dense forests and the challenging terrain of Kishtwar region, contact was re-established with terrorists on the run by CIF Delta troops, J&K Police and CRPF at around 5.45 pm in the general area of Dichhar, Chatroo,” he said.
The security forces are conducting searches in the Chatroo forest area since mid-January after an encounter with terrorists in which a paratrooper was killed and eight others injured.
Meanwhile, two terrorists were killed by security forces under “Operation KIYA” in Basantgarh area in Udhampur district.
The Army's White Knight Corps said in a post on X that "based on specific intelligence input provided by J&K Police, troops of CIF Delta, Army and CRPF planned and executed a focused joint counter-terror operation in the general area of Jophar Forest, Basantgarh, reinforcing the cordon, ensuring effective area domination to prevent escape of terrorists."
"Contact with terrorists was established yesterday, and since then, the terrorists had been under surveillance "Following a calibrated and coordinated response, two terrorists have been successfully neutralised," the Army said, adding that the Operation highlighted seamless inter-agency coordination, tactical precision and high standards of professionalism.
" The Operation concluded successfully while the area remains under surveillance," the Army said.
Sources said sniffer dogs with cameras mounted on them were pressed into service to detect the terrorists' presence, with intermittent firing continuing through the night.
Security forces fired rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) rounds, targeting the mouth of the cave hideout and killed both commanders.
M4 rifles, AK-47, and large quantities of ammunition were recovered from terrorists.
The terrorists, operating in the area for months, were reportedly planning to establish a base and gather supplies.
