354 recruits begin territorial army training in Manipur

May 20, 2026 | BK News Service

Imphal, May 19: A total of 354 candidates, including nine women, have reported at Imphal West district for foundational training at Infantry Battalion (Territorial Army) (Home & Hearth), Assam, after successfully clearing recruitment rallies.

Officials said the candidates, drawn from different parts of the region, will undergo basic military training aimed at preparing them for induction into the Territorial Army framework. The training will focus on physical conditioning, discipline, weapons handling, and basic tactical skills.
The recruitment drive is part of efforts to strengthen local participation in the Territorial Army (Home & Hearth) units, which enable civilians to contribute to national security while continuing their regular civilian lives.
Training authorities said the programme is designed to build operational readiness, leadership qualities, and resilience among recruits, ensuring they are equipped to support regular Army units when required.
The inclusion of women candidates was also highlighted as a positive step towards greater gender representation in defence-related roles.
Officials added that the trainees will undergo rigorous instruction in phases, with emphasis on fitness standards, fieldcraft, and teamwork, before progressing to advanced training modules.
The induction marks an important milestone for the selected candidates as they begin their journey in military service under the Territorial Army structure.
