At least four firefighters were injured during a major fire incident that broke out on Friday evening in the Gousia Colony area of Bemina, Srinagar, damaging a local madrassa and two residential buildings, officials said.
According to officials from the Fire and Emergency Services Department, teams were immediately dispatched to the site upon receiving the alert. Local residents also assisted in efforts to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading further.
“The fire initially erupted at Madrassa Sabeel-un-Huda and quickly spread to two adjacent residential structures,” said an official on the scene. “Firefighting teams worked tirelessly to douse the flames.”
During the operation, four firemen sustained injuries and were subsequently shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment. Their condition was reported to be stable.
Eyewitnesses described scenes of thick smoke and towering flames as multiple fire tenders were deployed to bring the fire under control. The exact cause of the fire was not immediately known at the time of filing this report.
The blaze has since been brought under control.
