July 22, 2026 | BK News Service

Imphal, July 21: In a major boost to peace and stability in Manipur, 46 cadres of the banned Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP) voluntarily surrendered before Chief Minister N. Biren Singh's successor Y. Khemchand Singh at the Mantripukhri Garrison in Imphal East on Monday.

The surrender ceremony was attended by the General Officer Commanding (GOC), Spear Corps, senior officers of the Indian Army, Assam Rifles, Manipur Police, CRPF, and other security agencies, reflecting a coordinated effort to encourage militants to return to the mainstream.
According to an official statement, the development followed months of sustained outreach by formations of the Indian Army and Assam Rifles under Spear Corps, operating under the aegis of the Eastern Command, with active support from the Manipur Police and Central security agencies.
Officials said the security forces maintained continuous engagement with the cadres, keeping channels of communication open and encouraging them to abandon violence and embrace peaceful reintegration into society.
The surrendered cadres pledged to renounce militancy, shun violence and begin a new life as responsible citizens.
Security officials described the mass surrender as a significant milestone in ongoing efforts to restore lasting peace and normalcy in the violence-affected state. They said such initiatives reflect the growing confidence of misguided youth in the rehabilitation process and the government's commitment to peaceful conflict resolution.
The Indian Army reiterated its commitment to working with civil administration and security agencies to foster peace, stability and development in Manipur, while continuing efforts to encourage more militants to join the path of reconciliation and nation-building.
