Srinagar, Aug 03: In a significant initiative to promote organic farming and strengthen farmers’ capacity through experiential learning, the Department of Agriculture, Srinagar, today flagged off a contingent of 60 progressive farmers and field officials for an exposure visit under the Paramparagat Krishi Vikas Yojana (PKVY).

The group was flagged off by the Chief Agriculture Officer (CAO), Srinagar, Mir Ajaz Hassan, who highlighted the importance of exposure visits in equipping farmers with practical knowledge of successful organic farming models, sustainable agricultural practices, and innovative technologies. He said such visits provide an excellent platform for farmers and field functionaries to interact with experts, progressive growers, and leading institutions, enabling them to replicate proven practices in their own areas.
Addressing the participants before the flag-off, Mir Ajaz Hassan urged them to actively engage during the visit, observe the best practices being adopted in organic agriculture, and disseminate the knowledge gained among fellow farmers to accelerate the adoption of sustainable farming techniques across the district.
The PKVY is a flagship programme aimed at promoting organic farming through cluster-based approaches, capacity building, and market-oriented production systems. The visit is expected to enhance the participants’ understanding of organic cultivation, certification processes, value addition, and marketing strategies.
