Srinagar, Sep 22: As many as 90 young artists have registered for the fourth season of Fankar-E-Kashmir, with 70 performers shortlisted for live auditions and 15 set to qualify for the grand finale in Srinagar.
The two-day audition process features 35 performers each day, giving emerging musicians an opportunity to showcase their talent before a panel and compete for a place on the main stage.
Organizers said this year’s edition has seen increased participation from instrumentalists, along with two emerging rappers who have introduced contemporary musical styles to the platform.
Fankar-E-Kashmir is being organized by ShowCase Events, The Eagle and Kashmir Rabab Academy with the aim of providing young Kashmiri musicians greater exposure, mentorship and professional opportunities.
The fourth season will conclude with a grand finale at Tagore Hall in Srinagar on September 28.
Over the years, the initiative has expanded beyond a traditional folk music platform to include live performances, mentorship programmes, knowledge sessions and opportunities for artists to record their work.
Nazir Ganaie, Founder of Kashmir Rabab Academy, said the diverse participation this year reflects the changing musical interests of young artists in Kashmir.
Angelina Fernandes, Founder of The Eagle, said the platform has expanded since its launch and is working to connect local artists with wider recognition and professional opportunities outside Kashmir.
Nanni Singh, Chief Executive of ShowCase Events, said the initiative aims to create sustained opportunities for young performers while contributing to the growth of the local cultural and music economy.
The initiative has also received institutional and community support. The Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages is supporting the programme, while Sustainnovate Research & Advocacy Foundation has joined as an NGO partner and RAAB Foundation as the title sponsor.
With participation from folk singers, instrumentalists and contemporary performers, the fourth season is bringing together different forms of musical expression while providing young artists a platform to present their work to a wider audience.
