9th Capt N. Kenguruse memorial football tournament inaugurated in Kohima

Kohima, Oct 24: The 9th Edition of the Capt N. Kenguruse, MVC (P), Memorial Football Tournament 2025 was inaugurated at Indira Gandhi Stadium, Kohima, in a vibrant opening ceremony. Organised jointly by the Indian Army and Assam Rifles under ‘Op Sadbhavana’, the event honors the valor and sacrifice of Captain N. Kenguruse, MVC (Posthumous), a Kargil War hero.

The ceremony commenced with the arrival of Chief Guest Dr. Neiphiu Rio, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Nagaland, followed by a solemn prayer seeking blessings for the success of the tournament. A short film showcasing the life and bravery of Capt Kenguruse was screened, paying homage to his extraordinary courage and supreme sacrifice for the nation.
The inauguration was presided over by the Chief Minister along with Lieutenant General Abhijit S. Pendharkar, AVSM, YSM, GOC Spear Corps, and senior officials from Assam Rifles and the Nagaland Football Association. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from football teams across the region and set the stage for a competitive and spirited tournament, fostering sportsmanship and honoring the legacy of a national hero.
