A Movement for Peace: Healing the Mind Through Motion

November 10, 2025 | Muskaan Qadir Bhat

Overthinking—a word we often throw around lightly, yet it holds the power to drown us in endless loops of “what ifs” and “maybes.” I know this all too well, because I’ve lived through it.

For a long time, I found myself trapped in my own thoughts. I began isolating myself in a dark room, believing that silence and solitude would bring peace. At first, it did feel relieving—no noise, no people, no expectations. But slowly, I started losing connection with the people I loved the most—my parents. The comfort that once came from their presence began to feel distant.
One day, something changed. I went out with my mom to help with household chores—something so simple, yet it made me feel alive again. For the first time in a long while, I felt happy, relaxed, and light. That’s when it hit me—isolation is not the cure for overthinking.
The real peace comes when we move, when we do. Physical activity, even something small, can calm the mind in ways that sitting still never can.
In today’s world, we often keep our emotions bottled up. We fear being judged, misunderstood, or dismissed. But here’s what I’ve learned—let them judge. Let people think what they want, because at the end of the day, you are not accountable to anyone but yourself. Your mental health matters more than their opinions.
So be positive. Do what makes you happy. Spend time with people who make you feel warm inside. Go outside, breathe fresh air, move your body, and live fully. Because in the end, it’s only you and your peace of mind that truly matter.
There’s a beautiful quote by Thomas Jefferson that I carry with me:
“Exercise and application produce order to our affairs, health of body, cheerfulness of mind — and those make us precious to our friends.”
In this world of constant stress, overwhelm, and overthinking, we need to get out of our heads and back into our bodies. We need to move more—not just for ourselves, but for the generations watching us. If we don’t, our children will inherit our patterns of stress, inactivity, and mental unwellness.
So today, let’s start a movement for movement—a movement for joy, peace, and presence.
Find your movement—the one that fills your heart with happiness—and do it as often as you can. Because when we move our bodies, we heal our minds.
