Jammu, Mar 19: Renowned theatre director Balwant Thakur’s iconic children’s play Aap Hamaare Hain Kaun has become the only children’s production selected for the 26th National Theatre Festival in Amritsar, to be staged on March 25 at Virsa Vihar.
Originally written in 1994, the play is India’s longest-running children’s production, with over 300 performances nationwide, and is recognized for its revolutionary child-centric approach. Instead of imposing rigid scripts, it evolved through improvisation, play, and movement, treating children as active co-creators, reshaping the landscape of children’s theatre in India and globally.
Having captivated audiences across cities including Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Kolkata, and Srinagar, the production has also inspired many original participants to pursue careers in theatre and cinema. Its upcoming performance at the festival reaffirms its status as a historic, world-record-setting contribution to global children’s theatre.
